Two-Tier Foundations
The modern buttercream masterclass — from home baker to booked wedding cake artist. Three chapters, four signature designs, and every step between — from first sponge to booked business.
What you will build
Every lesson comes from cakes made for real luxury weddings, not a demo kitchen. You finish with four portfolio-ready two-tier cakes and the pricing, process and professional presence behind them.
The curriculum
Questions, answered
Is this course right for my skill level?
It's written for bakers who have some home baking behind them - you've made cakes before, even if you've never filled, stacked, or decorated a tiered one. Every foundation skill is taught from zero, in order, and nothing assumes professional experience. If you're already selling cakes, the value sits in the refinement: the heated-scraper finish, fine string work, four portfolio-ready signature designs, and a full business chapter with the studio's own pricing tools.
How much time does it take?
The course is completely self-paced, and your access never expires. Chapter 1 suits being spread over a few baking sessions; each signature design is a comfortable weekend arc from bake to finished cake. Your progress saves to your account and follows you between devices, so the course keeps your place - there is no falling behind, because there is no schedule.
What equipment and ingredients do I need?
Nothing industrial - a home oven and a stand or hand mixer carry the whole course. Enrollment includes the full Tools & Equipment guide: every item marked required or optional, with honest buying notes on each. Don't shop for everything at once; the lessons tell you exactly what comes out of the drawer next, and each lesson lists its own tools and ingredients at the top.
What exactly is included?
Every lesson video with complete written steps beneath it, the recipe book, the full LAYER'D Toolkit - the same calculators this studio runs on for dowelling, batch scaling, and pricing - the student community, personal feedback on the cakes you submit, and a certificate of completion. Access is lifetime, including updates to the course.
Can I really do this in a regular home kitchen?
Yes - every cake in this course was designed to be achievable in a home kitchen, and the lessons flag the honest constraints as they come. The one to plan for is fridge space: a two-tier build needs room to chill properly between stages, so clear a shelf before bake day. If you're in a hot or humid climate, the course teaches a ganache-based option exactly for you.
How does the certificate work?
It's earned, not automatic. Finish all four signature designs, photograph each one, and submit them through the course - I review every submission personally and reply with real notes. When all four are at standard, your certificate is issued personally too. It means something because not every cake passes on the first try.
What if I get stuck mid-bake?
Every page of the course has an Ask a question link that reaches me directly - there is no such thing as a silly question with batter on your hands. You'll also have Cake ER, the studio's cake first-aid guide, for on-the-spot diagnosis, and the student community for a second pair of eyes on anything you're unsure about.
