MeetMariya
Mariya’s love of baking began in childhood, watching her mother at work in a commercial kitchen — where flour, sugar, and long hours quietly became a language of care. It never left her.
She went on to earn a degree in Law and Policy, all the while deepening her craft in fine dining kitchens and pastry courses — among them a macaron course at Le Foodist in Paris. When artistic vision finally met technical mastery, LAYER’D was born.
Today she is one of Toronto’s most distinctive cake artists: a finalist on CTV’s Cross Country Cake-Off (on Amazon Prime and Crave), and the hands behind every cake that leaves the studio.

Mariya’s designs are organic and innovative, shaped by a deep connection to nature — petals, textures, and forms drawn from the world outside the studio window. Only the finest ingredients make it into the work, and every creation carries the same unhurried care, whether it serves ten guests or three hundred.
